I got pointed, thanks to Beth, at a You Tube video with the title
"Do you teach or do you educate?"
Normally I would embed this, but the makers have asked for it not to be embedded, and so I will honour their request.
There is a not very subtle agenda here:
- Teachers are "bad" and educators are "good"
- Teachers "force, compel, explain" and educators "give"
- Teacher can punish and educators mentor
Like a lot of these things, I'm not 100% sure I agree with the terms and definitions given, and there are elements of the job that a teacher does which are essential: Teachers persuade others of facts or principles - could we really cope without that at some levels? but it is interesting.
It would be a whole lot better if it suggested ways and techniques to become more of an educator and less of a teacher, but it is thought provoking and worth a look, and a ponder.
